Another week, another piece of controversial news is coming out of the Twitter Head Office. The boss, Elon Musk, has recently announced a shake-up of the platform’s paid Twitter Blue Feature.

As of April 15th, Musk has stated that only Tweets from verified accounts will be shown on the platform’s curated “For You” timeline.

With that change coming in, Twitter will only recommend tweets from accounts that either pay for Twitter Blue, belong to organisations that boast a gold verification badge or are government officials and entities with a grey verification badge.

This isn’t ideal for those accounts who do not wish to pay for Twitter Blue, a service that has gained widespread criticism. It is likely, but not confirmed, that the organic accounts will lose traction on the platform. This could mean your tweets reach a smaller audience and aren’t seen by as many people as they once were.

A report by The Information stated that as of early February 2023, only 290,000 accounts paid for Twitter Blue. Whilst this number may well have increased since then, it speaks volumes as to what Twitter users think of the subscription. Especially when Twitter has around 450 million monthly active users.*

That’s 0.064% of monthly active users subscribing to Twitter Blue.

As things stand, unfortunately, there isn’t much that can be done to negate the negative impact of the upcoming changes. Unless you pay for Twitter Blue, of course.

At ads creative solutions, we would recommend approaching the platform with value in mind. You’ll still be able to reach your followers, but it has never been more important to ensure your message is clear, concise and brings value to the user.

The future of Twitter seems rather unpredictable at the moment. To say that the company has gone through a bit of a rough patch since Elon Musk’s takeover would be somewhat of an understatement.

No one knows what exactly is around the corner, but if there’s one thing we can count on, it would be that here at ads creative solutions, we’ll be on top of it! If you’re wondering whether to subscribe to Twitter Blue, our recommendation right now would be to hold off and see where the platform is going.
